The Zambian air force is 1.600 men strong. It operates a mixed fleet of Western and Eastern aircraft and helicopters. Attrition rates have always been high and hardly any of the aircraft in the 70's and 80's remain. Most new aircraft are bought from the Peoples Republic of China. The air force focuses on transportation but also has ground attack and limited air superiority capabilities.
