The army is the main element of the Moldovan armed forces. Moldova has no tanks or heavy combat vehicles. The core of the army consist of BMD-1 airborne vehicles, TAB-71 APC's and tube artillery. The army currently numbers 5.150 men with 66.000 reserves, a decade ago the number was over 11.000 troops.
